About this contract

This agreement is for students and music instructors arranging private lessons or coaching. Ownership language applies only to expressly commissioned deliverables, not the instructor's methods or existing teaching materials.

Key points covered in this contract

  • Lesson arrangements: student level, lesson schedule, equipment, supervision, and rescheduling terms.
  • Payment and changes: the fee, payment dates, and how added work or a cancelled date will be handled.
  • Materials and credit: any notes, plans, equipment, or public credit included in the engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does paying for services transfer ownership of a professional's existing materials?
No. Paying for someone's time does not normally buy their existing tools, teaching methods, or materials. The client may receive permission to use particular notes or plans without owning everything behind them. Ownership transfers require a separate legal basis.
What happens if I miss a lesson or stop before a prepaid package ends?
A missed lesson may count as used when the cancellation deadline has passed. Ending a package raises a different question: whether unused lessons can be refunded, transferred, or rescheduled. The lesson terms and applicable consumer rules determine the answer; prepaid does not automatically mean nonrefundable.
