About this contract

This agreement is for tailors and clients agreeing on alterations, fittings, and care of existing garments. Alterations change existing garments; they do not include designing a collection or manufacturing new clothing.

Key points covered in this contract

  • Alteration work: garment list and condition, approved alterations, fittings, and return date.
  • Payment and changes: the fee, payment dates, and how added work or a cancelled date will be handled.
  • Materials and credit: any notes, plans, equipment, or public credit included in the engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does paying for services transfer ownership of a professional's existing materials?
No. Paying for someone's time does not normally buy their existing tools, teaching methods, or materials. The client may receive permission to use particular notes or plans without owning everything behind them. Ownership transfers require a separate legal basis.
Does commissioning garment design or sample work also order a production run?
Not automatically. Design, pattern, sample, and alteration services are different from ordering finished goods in quantity. A Manufacturing Agreement can document a separate production order, including quantities, price, quality standards, and delivery terms.
What happens if an alteration does not match the approved fitting?
Work that misses the approved instructions may need correction or another remedy. That differs from asking for a new style or changing measurements after the fitting. The tailoring agreement and applicable consumer law affect what the client can request.
